Magazines & Pamphlets
Despite the advent and viral spread of radio broadcasting and eventually network television and the internet, the 20th century was still very much a century of print. Each of CRAFTE's projects works with its own specific types of magazines, pamphlets, and other grey literature. Here you can explore some of the publications which will be included in our databse.
AISF / AIYF Periodicals
The All-India Students' Federation [AISF] and the All-India Youth Federation [AIYF] produced various mouthpieces with a publication history beginning before India's independence.
The magazines generally report on local, regional, and global developments with a particular focus on activities or opression of students.
The databse will include issues of the following publications and years:
- The Student [1952-52]
- New Generation [1961-69]
- Youth Life [1973-74]
- Student Action [1982-87]
More issues might be retrieved on future research trips.

Women's Magazines
'Women of the Whole World' was a publication of the Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF).
Originally founded and based in Paris (1945), the organization's headquarters moved in 1951 to East Berlin.
Most of the issues of the magazine can be accessed at the Institute for Social History, Amsterdam.
CRAFTE's database enlists digital copies of issues which have been part of WIDF representatives' private collections.
The sub-collection will also house digital copies of other women's magazines and periodicals from relevant contexts, as we discover more during the research.

Radio Journals
Almost all international radio broadcasting stations regularly published journals and magazines which were globally rotated among listeners.
While some of these can be found in radio archives of individual stations, listeners' private collections offer access to a plethora of such journals from the Cold War period, which belong to diverse stations.
While originals are still part of listeners' collections and laboriously preserved in their homesteads, this sub-collection of the CRAFTE database offers the possibility to digitally access some of these radio journals (Tune In, Hello Friends, RBI Bulletin) as well as select issues of some other magazines sent by radio stations to listeners (Soviet Land, Soviet Woman, etc.).
