Tourist-Guides, City-guide books, maps (political and physical) have long served as a tool used by travellers to orient themselves in unknown spaces. They have also been a popular means for states to inform non-residents about a village, city, area or country's urban and rural landscapes.

 

In this sub-collection, the CRAFTE Database brings together tourist-guides, maps and other kinds of guide-books or mental-maps, which were available for, gifted to, or self-designed by travellers. Most of these have been kept over the years by mobile actors from African and Asian contexts. The database houses digital copies of some such guide-books from private collections.
